Across the country, Third Actors helped deliver big wins for democracy and the climate.

We’re feeling many things today. Maybe the biggest is sheer relief: America’s fate is not set, people are pushing back against the authoritarians, the story is far from over. We’re also moved by the new faces rising up—the ex-Navy helicopter pilot who’s now the governor of New Jersey, the two democrats in Georgia who will now shape energy policy on the PSC that actually serves the people, the Muslim immigrant who will govern the country’s biggest city. And we’re excited by the issues coming to the fore: especially the role of clean energy in helping make America affordable again.
New Jersey:
The home of our newest Working Group helped propel Rep. Mikie Sherrill, running on a promise to lower utility costs and support renewable energy, into office as Governor.
New York City: GrayPAC endorsee, State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, will be the next Mayor of New York City, with plans to revitalize public transit and increase sustainable housing. The NYC Working Group led efforts to get out the vote across the city, knocking on doors and fundraising.
Georgia:
Dr. Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard defeated their Republican opponents to win important seats on the statewide Public Service Commission. Our Georgia Working Group, which made these often low-turnout seats key races for the climate movement, organized and phonebanked endlessly for this win—big kudos to them!
Pennsylvania:
Voters retained three Supreme Court Justices—Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty, and David Wecht—despite billionaire Jeffrey Yass (Pennsylvania’s richest man) pouring money into the race to urge a vote against retention. Donohue, Dougherty, and Wecht have been instrumental in upholding Democracy and protecting the right to vote. Thank you to our Working Group in PA for setting Third Actors up with opportunities to phonebank and canvass, ensuring that these Supreme Court Justices kept their seats.
Virginia:
Led by Rep. Abigail Spanberger, Democrats secured a massive trifecta across the state. Numerous candidates ran on an enthusiastic platform of green energy and standing up to corporate interests, including VA Working Group endorsee Elizabeth Guzman, who flipped a state house seat with her win.
California:
In response to attempts to circumvent the will of the voters, California voters overwhelmingly passed Prop 50, creating a new congressional map to ensure voters have a say in our Democracy. Our Bay Area, Sacramento, and Southern California Working Groups led unprecedented get-out-the-vote efforts across the state.
These wins are proof that people power will always be triumphant. When we stand together, we win.
Congrats to all of our Third Actors who made this possible!
