Corvallis covers 14 square miles, contains abundant tree cover, parks and trails, and is graced by two rivers, The Willamette River and Mary’s River.
Thirty-two percent of us fall between 20-29, and 17 percent of our community is 60 or older.
Third Act
Third Act was founded in January 2022 by climate champion Bill McKibben to get folks 60 and older actively involved in the fight to save the planet from climate catastrophe. The new organization soon added the protection of our teetering democracy to our mission.
Our community group in Corvallis began in January 2025.
We are part of Third Act Oregon (the state program), which is part of Third Act Central (the nationwide program). Third Act Oregon has active community groups in Eugene, Portland and Bend.
Corvallis has a steering committee of nine members who meet monthly to discuss priorities, activities and the agenda.
Meeting Together
Third Act Corvallis meets every second Tuesday of the month.

What We Do
We do whatever we can to protect our planet from climate damage and to protect our fragile democracy. These actions include:
- Tabling at local events
- Lobbying the Legislature with our climate partners
- Postcarding and phonebanking to increase progressive voter turnout across the country
TAO Corvallis hosted Third Act’s solar festival, Sun Day, in Corvallis Central Park with 40 local partners
Sun Day on September 21, 2025 was an uplifting celebration of the power of the sun. All 40 partners, exhibitors and vendors—the entire event—were powered by three sources of solar electricity, the Oregon State University Solar Trailor and two electric vehicles. Our goal was to demonstrate, educate, inspire and motivate the 200 members of the public who came to our event. We received many wonderful comments and thank-you notes from our partners.
Our helpful Sun Day Partners included The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, Oregon Clean Power Coop, Abundant Solar, Seeds for the Sol, Energy Wise Services, Oregon Environmental Council, League of Women Voters in Corvallis, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Indivisible Benton County and more. We are very thankful for their support of Sun Day.
Third Act Oregon Action Teams
Local members may choose which Oregon Action Team(s) they would like to work with. Third Act Oregon’s three primary Action Teams are:
Power Up Communities
You may have heard about plug-in solar (also known as “balcony solar”). Plug-in solar is small-scale solar—it’s an affordable way to generate your own power even if you rent your home. It’s growing quickly in Germany, and Utah is the first US state to pass a law allowing plug-in solar. We expect a bill to be introduced here in Oregon in February. We’ll also be supporting legislation to improve the speed, efficiency and cost of solar permitting, as Oregon’s track record is poor.
Climate Finance
If you have a retirement account or a pension plan or an Oregon College Savings account, you likely own shares of Chevron, BP, and Shell and other climate criminals in your savings accounts. Join the many Oregonians at Divest Oregon and Green 529 asking the College Savings Board to add a low-fee, age-based option to the Oregon College Savings fund line-up that doesn’t invest in fossil fuels.
Democracy & Voting
The resounding election victories for Democrats in early November demonstrated that the cost and sources of our energy will be BIG issues in the 2026 midterms. With the proliferation of energy sucking data centers, the malicious kneecapping of solar and wind projects, and Trump 2.0’s love fest with the fossil fuel industry and so many other monied interests, it’s likely that energy prices will continue to punish average consumers. This Team will also support legislation to simplify and reduce the costs of solar permitting in Oregon, one of the slowest states in this regard.
Member Profile – Carol Cina
Carol Cina, above left and hard at work, is for some of us the model of what an activist should be. Carol started her activist career during the 1960s in New York and made a name by helping Pete Seeger clean up the Hudson River. Carol is devoted to social and climate justice, serves on our Steering Committee and always has sound advice for our community.
