Cait Conley is a proud fourth-generation Hudson Valley native from working-class roots who understands the values of hard work and public service. Cait’s mom, born in Peekskill, was a postal worker for 48 years, serving communities throughout the Hudson Valley. Her dad, born and raised in Hopewell Junction, was a construction worker, and her grandfather and great-grandfather worked in the Montrose brickyard.
Cait was a junior at Pine Bush High School on 9/11 when she watched the Twin Towers fall. In that moment, she felt her calling to serve and protect. She later attended West Point, then served for 16 years as an active-duty Army officer, deploying overseas six times to combat zones including Iraq and Afghanistan, for which she was awarded three Bronze Stars.
Cait was Director for Counterterrorism on the National Security Council during the Biden administration. She later helped safeguard our critical infrastructure and election systems at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), defending our democracy by protecting the security and integrity of our elections and by standing up directly to Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election.
Cait’s priorities include:
- Fighting climate change by investing in clean energy, protecting our open spaces, working to ensure we rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, and stopping Mike Lawler’s drive to reopen the reactors at Indian Point.
- Lowering healthcare costs by holding Big Pharma and insurance companies accountable and creating a public option for health insurance.
- Cleaning up corruption by banning members of Congress and the White House from trading stocks.
- Cutting utility bills by holding monopoly utility companies accountable.
The contrasts could not be clearer. Lawler, a former natural-gas industry lobbyist, has voted with Trump’s agenda 92% of the time. He voted to allow Trump to wage war in Iran without Congressional approval, to impose illegal tariffs, and to push almost 40,000 Hudson Valley residents off of medical benefits.
Once again, control of the House of Representatives runs through New York, and control of New York runs through CD-17, one of only three districts that voted for Kamala but elected a Republican to the House. There may be no more important race in the US this election cycle. Lawler is wallowing in the largesse of Trump’s billionaire PACs and pals. We need to match that with the people’s dollars, and the people’s energy!
