In March, Tom Mead succeeded Rev. Davida Foy Crabtree as co-facilitator of the group with George Stone.
Rev. Crabtree took on Volunteer Coordination and Community Engagement as part of co-chairing Sun Day Festival activities with Lynn Stoddard.
Co-Facilitator George Stone will leave the Cordinating Committee at the end of the year to move to the West Coast.
Third Act Connecticut is seeking internal and external volunteer candidates to guide its initiatives to ensure a just democracy, and focus on renewable energy to limit the world’s reliance on fossil fuels that cause climate change.
The position of co-facilitator requires leadership qualities and experiences including:
- Team building,
- Strategic understanding to influence climate change decisions,
- Knowledge of the people and organizations who make and guide policy in Connecticut.
- The co-facilitators conduct the monthly Coordinating Committee meetings.
Members of Third Act are “elders over age 60 who devote life experiences, skills and resources to ensure a safe and stable planet for generations to come,” says national founder Bill McKibben. The environmental activist and author also started the worldwide youth advocacy organization 350.org.
Third Act Connecticut is part of the nationwide Third Act movement engaging more than 90,000 members. Volunteers help register voters for Reviving Democracy; Fossil-Free Finance encourages divestment in underwriting fossil fuel projects, and Power up Communities involves the public in regulatory and legislative decisions about increasing access to renewable energy.
In Connecticut some 500 Third Actors have participated in marches and rallies, including “No Kings Day,” shareholder meeting protests calling attention to fossil fuel investments and advocacy at the state Capitol.
Third Act Connecticut has hosted virtual public forums on environmental issues, training events and Zoom calls with national environmental activists. Its members participate with Third Act leaders around the nation in strategic development and organizing.
