We are a friendly, inclusive group of older adults from across Maryland. Together, we bring our collective power to local, state and national efforts to protect the planet and strengthen democracy. Join us!

Third Act Maryland is a group of older adults from a broad range of backgrounds, cultures, faiths and traditions fighting for climate justice and democracy. Although most of our members are 60+, we encourage anyone who shares our values and Third Act’s Working Principles to join us. We believe older people can no longer stand on the sidelines–our time is now!

Getting involved with Third Act Maryland is easy, and you can be involved as much or as little as you like. You might want to work on art or other creative projects, participate in email and letter-writing campaigns, lobby the legislature or take a leadership role on our coordinating committee. If participating in nonviolent direct action and civil disobedience is your thing, you will find opportunities to do that.

Some of us are experienced activists, but many others have never been involved in a group like Third Act before. Whatever your level of experience and whatever your background, you will find Third Act Maryland to be welcoming and accepting.

Third Act Maryland is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, for ethical and strategic reasons. Organizations that are diverse in membership and leadership lead to a more just society and outperform those that are less diverse. We plan to win the fight for our planet and for all the people who live on it. To do that in an equitable way, we need diversity in our ranks and among our leaders. Join us today.

What We Do

Third Act Maryland is new, so we do not yet have regularly scheduled meetings and activities. Please check back frequently, or sign up for email notification of upcoming events and actions.

In the coming weeks and months, we will be:

  • Collaborating with and supporting other climate justice and democracy groups in Maryland, DC, Virginia and around the country
  • Pressuring big banks (Wells Fargo, Citi, Chase and Bank of America) to stop funding fossil fuel projects
  • Pressuring state pension officials and the University of Maryland system to divest from the fossil fuel industry
  • Engaging in nonviolent direct action and civil disobedience.
