“SunDay” in Wisconsin: What Is It and How to Celebrate It!

SunDay is a day of action when we in the USA celebrate the power of clean energy. The goal is to get folks informed and excited about solar energy - if the federal government won't take action to protect our world, we need to take action ourselves, as neighbors and local communities.

In one sense, “SunDay” is the fall solstice, September 21, and this is the date when most of the big SunDay celebrations across the USA will occur. In another sense, we here in Wisconsin are celebrating “Sun Month,” as our state’s SunDay events are scheduled during the last three weeks of September. These events are listed below.

The people offering these events understand that solar is the “new normal” for powering our world while reducing the threats of polluted air and climate change. Everyone offering one of these SunDay events is excited to share why they are investing in solar and how solar is taking us all into a clean and sustainable future.

Big Celebration Events 

SunDay, Sept. 21, 1-5 pm: 

Sun Day Madison – Free Concert & Celebration of the Power of the Sun – Westmoreland Park, 4114 Tokay Blvd., Madison. This family friendly event will celebrate all things solar and renewable, featuring live music, face painting, food, educational booths, solar demos, activities, and community.

 

Sept. 28, Noon – 4pm: 

The Wisconsin Climate March – starting on the UW-Madison Library Mall (715 State St., Madison). This march, sponsored by the Sierra Club, 350 Wisconsin, Third Act, Wisconsin Conservation Voters, RENEW Wisconsin, EcoLatinos, Union of Concerned Scientists, and many other climate & environmental organizations, will create a sense of community and shared purpose amongst like-minded individuals who care about our environment.  We want to send a message to Wisconsin’s decision-makers to protect the environment, science, and justice for all.
