Providing Informed Input on Transitioning Away from Fossil Gas
The POWER UP! team responded to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission’s (UTC’s) request for input on transitioning fossil gas utilities to clean energy alternatives. The Commission is now making a detailed plan to implement new legislation requiring the transition, which we advocated for earlier this year. The legislation requires combined fossil gas and electric utilities to do a detailed assessment of electrification and other alternatives to methane gas, and of equity considerations.
Utility Planning for Energy Transition
The team continues to review and comment on utility clean energy transition planning, working with our partner Washington Clean Energy Coalition. We’ve spoken at public meetings on Puget Sound Energy’s planning for equity, the social cost of greenhouse gases, integrating renewables with regional transmission, and distributed energy resources. We are contacting Third Actors in the service areas of other utilities to encourage and support their efforts to influence clean energy transition planning.
