New Third Act DC field trips

Climate adventures that build leaders and community

Third Act DC has launched a new project to build camaraderie and help members grow as leaders–the Third Act Third Tuesdays Field Trips!

Each month, a Third Act DC member will guide the outing, sharing something meaningful, surprising, or fun. No expertise required — just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to explore.

After an activity, we’ll grab coffee or a bite nearby and talk about what we saw, what sparked ideas, and where we’ll go next. We’re building a community of Third Act members (and their friends!) who learn together, support each other, and take joyful climate action.

We kicked off our monthly climate adventures on August 18 with a special docent‑led tour organized by Third Actor Paula Hirschoff at the National Museum of African Art. Together we explored how African artists express climate, environment, and resilience — and how these stories connect to our own climate action.

And here’s the tentative schedule–3rd Tuesday of every month–for the rest of 2026:

September 15, 1-3 pm: Join Friends of the National Arboretum for a panel discussion, “Curation to Inspiration: Federal Plant Collections in the District.”  Meet Third Actor Cara Fulton at the front desk after the discussion for a chat and walk through the Arboretum’s bonsai collection.  Register here.

October 20: Amy Hubbard will organize a River Keepers tour of the Anacostia River. Registration TBD.

November 17: Karen Gladding will lead a film screening and discussion of Big Oil on PBS. We’ll meet at the MLK Memorial Library. The exact location TBD as reservations cannot be made more than 60 days in advance.

December: Cara and Karen will take the lead in organizing a Third Act DC holiday party, date TBD.

We’d love to have you volunteer to lead a field trip for us!
