On April 22nd, Third Actors joined a coalition of nonviolent environmental activists as part of a “Summer of Heat” and put Citibank “on trial” for the environmental racism it perpetuates by financing fossil fuel extraction. Speakers included Black and Indigenous leaders who have been fighting fossil fuel buildout in their communities and have experienced pollution and harm firsthand. The action was part of the Spring Spark actions centered about Citibank’s annual shareholder meeting in New York.
Then Third Act VA, MD, and DC – aka the Rocking Chair Rebellion – shut down a downtown DC branch of Citibank for an hour on April 24th, demanding an end to their financing of environmental racism. Third Acters from all over the DMV rallied and picketed with our signature rocking chairs in solidarity with the nonviolent actions at the Citibank shareholders meeting in NYC.

Fellow climate activists including Third Acters successfully shut down Citibank’s global headquarters in New York! Democracy Now covered the NYC action – watch here.

If we don’t end the fossil fuel era in the coming years, so much that we care about will be lost. But Wall Street banks are continuing to pour billions into fossil fuel expansion, every year. Read more about Third Act’s campaign against those Banking on Our Future, and Sign Up to Move Your Money!
