How to start

Learn what is involved in joining Third Act Virginia: our goals and approach, about our monthly group calls, and the volunteer coordinating committee that administers and guides our work.

Newborn
Third Act Virginia is a new working group that’s part of the national Third Act organization. We are just forming and beginning to take our first steps. We are an inclusive collection of elders and welcome others with diverse ethnicities, cultures, faith traditions, socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, and communities. We are committed to following the Working Principles of Third Act in working within our own Virginia communities to implement Third Act’s goals and campaigns.

Coordinated
We do this through a coordinating committee of volunteers that works directly with Third Act’s staff to define overall direction, as outlined in these Working Group Agreements. We’re looking for dynamic leaders from diverse backgrounds who aren’t afraid to work to join the coordinating committee. If you are such a person, let us know by joining our group or emailing us at TAElderpower@protonmail.com

There's a lot we can do together

The agenda for the Third Act Virginia working group is very much a work in progress! We need your input and involvement to help us define where and how we move forward with joyful energy. Please join us!

  • Reach out to fellow elders through social media, your friends and family, church or other social clubs, etc. and encourage them to join Third Act action campaigns.
  • Look into your own bank accounts, credit cards, and investments and see which are funding the climate crisis. Commit to find and fund better alternatives.
  • Create a digital “clearing house” of democracy and climate resources.
  • Write letters to the editor and other outreach that helps educate your community and enlist them to take action to restore our climate and protect our democracy.
  • Keep an eye out for and publicize opportunities to draw more attention to these vital issues including public events, marches, email- and tweet-storms, protests, etc.
  • Curate a list of links to other organizations that we can support, collaborate with and learn from.
  • Explore ways that Third Act Virginia elders can help influence the vital 2022 mid-term elections when climate and democracy will be on the ballot in key races and states.
  • What are YOUR excellent ideas?
