Third Act RVA Represents at No Kings Day

By Beth Hedquist

No Kings Day was a historic success, with an estimated 8 million+ attendees! Were you there?

Third Act RVA hosted a table at Monroe Park, and it was an inspiring day. The weather was beautiful (aside from the wind) even though it was a bit chilly. The speakers, the music, the signs, the organizations that showed up — it all added up to a great event and we were honored to be a part of it. We met lots of wonderful allies, and had a chance to educate folks on climate and democracy issues. We also invited people to sign a card thanking their state delegate for voting “YES” on balcony solar, which passed both houses and is awaiting Gov. Spanberger’s signature.

A protest all by itself does not necessarily change things, but it is still a critically important tool in the toolkit of fighting authoritarianism. It raises awareness of the resistance, lets corporations know where we stand and that we will align our shopping with our values, and it supports and inspires attendees to see they are not alone in their concerns.

So many thanks to all who showed up, AND our work is not finished. It’s important to turn all that positive energy you felt at No Kings Day into engaged action in your community. Whether you only have a few hours to give, or want to invest more time into a cause that speaks to your heart, there are so many different ways to get involved. This administration is not going to stop working to take away our freedoms, and we are not going to stop working to protect democracy and the planet!
