How Poughkeepsie got to ‘Yes’ on grid-scale batteries

A NYCP webinar (recording) with special guest Dr. Jeff Seidman, Vassar College

As part of the New Yorkers for Clean Power Renewable Energy Speaker Series, Dr. Jeff Seidman of Vassar College presented an excellent program: “How Poughkeepsie got to ‘Yes’ on grid-scale batteries.”

The resources below are highly recommended for anyone interested in the future of the electric grid and clean energy in New York State.

Along with the slides linked above, Dr. Seidman shared a set of thoughts/resources for local advocates on BESS. Dr. Seidman wants everyone to know they can share these resources freely.

After the presentation, NYCP shared a link to a special action you can take to support energy storage. The Town of Ulster leaders are currently considering an exciting proposal for a new energy storage project, and they need to hear from you! Please sign the petition below to support the proposed TerraGen project in Ulster, which would provide enough power for approximately 250,000 local homes, reduce ratepayer costs, generate tax revenue for the Town, and reduce NY’s reliance on harmful fossil fuel peaker plants.

Your voice can make a difference – use this form to urge Ulster leaders to support battery storage and invite your friends and neighbors to fill it out. We are collecting signatures and delivering them to the Ulster Town Board at a future meeting.

In addition, the public comment period for the Shepherd’s Run Solar project is currently open. Please use our action tool here to write a comment to ORES in support of Shepherd’s Run.
