Solar Stories: Portland church goes solar

This solar array is expected to significantly reduce the church's reliance on traditional energy sources, decrease its carbon footprint, and serve as a powerful testament to solar power and the impact a community can have when united by a common purpose.

Portland’s First Unitarian Universalist Church, located in downtown Portland at 1211 SW Main St., partnered with Elemental Energy, a Portland-based solar installer, on a solar photovoltaic (PV) project, further cementing its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable energy.

This ambitious initiative, spearheaded by the church’s Community for Earth, saw the installation of 140 solar panels on the church’s roof, marking a major step forward in its journey towards electrification.

The Community for Earth, part of the Church’s Social Justice Ministry, is focused on environmental justice and action, was instrumental in bringing this vision to fruition.
