TAO’s Sun Day Warm-up #4: The Oregon Community Solar Program

Community Solar: it's a win-win for the environment and consumer

The Oregon Community Solar Program allows those of us who do not have the capacity to install solar panels on our homes to still benefit from solar.

This free program allows customers of Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, and Idaho Power to access the benefits of solar power. By connecting individuals, businesses, communities and developers, Community Solar provides the tools and support to develop solar projects across Oregon.

Utility customers can subscribe for free to a Community Solar Project and get a credit on their utility bill for their portion of the energy generated by the project. Its an easy and low risk way for customers to get the advantages of solar energy even if you don’t have a sunny roof or rent or live in an urban or rural community.

One TAO member, whose family lives in NE Portland, has been a subscriber to Community Solar for several months now. In addition to taking comfort in knowing he is helping the environment by participating in this free solar program, he is also realizing monthly credits on his electric bill in the range of $15.00 to $60.00 a month.

So in advance of Sun Day, please take action and sign up for Community Solar Power. It’s a win-win for the environment and for you the utility consumer.

P.S – Please share this with family and friends too!
