“Evening with Bill McKibben” event a resounding success with 920 event registrations

TAO’s “Evening with Bill McKibben” event was a resounding success. Even though the thermometer was reaching towards 100 degrees, TAO volunteer efforts paid off as the organization directly reached over 1000 people with the message of Third Act’s founder.

With the help of 30 supporting organizations, there were 920 event registrations, more than 300 in-person attendees, 350 on Livestream, and well over 100 at several watch parties around the state.

Joking that in some ways he’s a “professional bummer-outer of people,” McKibben spoke to a full house at the First Unitarian Church in Portland… a venue without air conditioning. He talked earnestly and directly about the climate cris is, while insisting there is still time to act.

After McKibben spoke, he shared in a Q&A session with three youth climate activists from around Oregon. Reveling in an intergenerational conversation, McKibben paid homage to their efforts and called on elders in their “third act” to use their wisdom, skills, and resources to join the fight.
