February Newsletter

Dear Friends,

With the arrival of this 2024 election year, the importance of actively supporting Third Act’s dual missions couldn’t be more clear. Our endangered democracy and climate are so closely intertwined that our election outcomes in November will be profound. To motivate us in this work, and offer reasons to be hopeful, we invite you to join us for Third Act Oregon’s Official (virtual) Launch this Thursday at 4pm, featuring two climate and democracy champions, Oregon Senator Jeff Merkely and Third Act Founder, Bill McKibben.

The Coal Act passes the Oregon House, moves to the Senate

In January, a number of Oregon Third Actors attended Lobby Day sponsored by Divest Oregon in support of the COAL Act. These continued efforts by Divest Oregon are beginning to pay off! Just yesterday, February 19th, the COAL ACT passed the Oregon House and is now moving to the Senate!

  • Our banks are hiding a dirty little secret: they’re in bed with the fossil fuel industry. Over the past two years, the Big 4 Wall Street banks – Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo – have loaned $349 billion to fossil fuel companies, fueling the climate crisis. Take a look at this clever video featuring Game of Thrones stars and real-life couple Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie bringing this dirty little secret to light.
