Third Act Minnesota is a community of Minnesotans over age 60 united to create a sustainable future for our planet and fortify our democracy. Harnessing wisdom from our years, we act locally and nationally to make a difference together for future generations. Your voice can amplify our efforts. Later is too Late! Join us!

Third Act Minnesota is a diverse community of older citizens (60 and older) who know our planet and our democracy are increasingly endangered by unjust laws and economic practices. Together we are committed to harnessing the political and economic power of our generation to change the course of history and leave a better world for generations to come.

We mobilize older Minnesotans to act collectively on local and national climate and democracy issues. We are committed in principle to diversity, equity, and inclusion, knowing as well that diverse organizations create a more representative, just, and productive working environment. We need your skills, talents, and time to be successful in all these matters. Together we will prevail!

What We Do:

Fossil Free Finance Campaign

By flexing our economic and political might and exercising people power, we pressure local and national banks and institutions to stop funding fossil fuel projects, insisting in various ways that large entities and influencers take rapid, effective climate action to protect our environment. Among other actions, we sign the Banking on our Future pledge, write letters to editors, corporate officers, and government officials, organize protests, and constantly spread the word. Safeguarding our Democracy

We oppose the suppression of voting rights, the gerrymandering of congressional districts, and any action that obstructs or subverts the fair representation of our citizens. The crippling influence of big money, the intimidation and harassment of election officials, and the interference with vote counting and certification of elections is undermining our democracy. While we work both locally and nationally to combat these and other unfair and/or illegal intrusions, we also work to increase voter registration, especially among young and aspiring voters. Local Initiatives

In May 2023, Governor Tim Walz signed into law a $2 billion environment, energy, and climate budget that will help Minnesota combat climate change and move toward a carbon-free economy. We aim to work with our state government to mandate official assessment of climate change impacts before any policy decisions are made, including those involving transportation, infrastructure, housing, and clean energy. We will also collaborate locally with other mission-aligned organizations working on climate and democracy issues, including any involving the protection and conservation of the Upper Mississippi River, Minnesota’s ecological and cultural treasure.

As Minnesotans, we acknowledge we inhabit the ancestral homelands of the Dakota, Ojibwe, Ho-Chunk, Cheyenne, Oto, Iowa, and Meskwaki people. We honor the ancestors and descendants of these distinct tribal nations, knowing how much historical, spiritual, and personal significance this land held and holds for them. We also commit to work with Third Act Central to stop the anti-democratic schemes aligned against our native communities as they work for sovereignty and cultural recognition.
