Boycott DoorDash for Backing Bill Attacking D.C. Home Rule

The D.C. Council’s proposed 20-cent delivery fee would help fund food programs for low-income residents living in food deserts.

The House Oversight Committee voted to gut D.C. home rule by advancing a bill that would strip the district of the ability to raise funds through taxation, licensing, permits, assessments, and fees without congressional approval. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton described it as “the most consequential reduction in D.C.’s authority to govern itself in the modern history of D.C. home rule.”

DoorDash is lobbying in support of the legislation because of the D.C. Council’s new 20-cent delivery fee, which will help fund food programs for low-income district residents living in food deserts.
