Carrying banners and signs that proclaimed, “Elders Against Authoritarianism” and “No Kings – No Oil-garchy” Third Act Mainers showed up for No Kings Day 3 on Saturday, March 28. Third Act Mainers made up part of a Resistance Chorus in York. Monument Square in Portland and Erskine Park in South Portland also saw Third Act Mainers proudly standing out. In Farmington, Western Mountains Third Act hosted more than 800 peaceful and spirited protesters who lined Main Street and sang songs of hope and resistance with singer-songwriter Ruth Hill. Deer Isle and Wiscasset were represented as well.
Standing out on its own will not be enough to save our democracy or our planet. But it sustains our spirits and energizes us for the necessary work of holding elected officials accountable and electing pro-democracy candidates in the midterms.
