After two years with no response from Maine’s L.L. Bean, whose slogan is “the outside is inside everything we do,” climate activists widened the circle and began increasing the pressure as of June 2025.

The manager was attentive. We pointed out that if L.L.Bean could pressure Citi Bank and/or push for finding a climate friendly credit card partner, they would gain public respect.

Companies like LL Bean have an opportunity to be leaders in responding to the climate crisis.  By cutting ties with Citibank, they would be sending a powerful signal that funding fossil fuel expansion is unacceptable as the world falls deeper and deeper into climate instability and chaos.
