In the 2024 election cycle, the Democrats lost control of the House by just 7,500 votes spread over five congressional districts. “If you need to dig a little bit deeper to knock on one more door, write one more postcard, or make one more phone call, just keep that stat in mind because everything that we can do could make the difference in those 7,500 votes.”
That is the powerful opportunity of activism as we approach the 2026 mid-term elections, as described by Bob Bingaman, Political Field Consultant for Third Act and GrayPAC. He was a featured guest on a TA CT All-In call on June 11, kicking off TA CT’s member mobilization efforts for the elections.
Eric Goldberg, co-lead of the TA CT Defending Democracy team, issued a call to action: “Our goal and our hope is to inform, inspire, encourage, energize and mobilize each one of us to commit to doing our part between now and the elections in November to help elect democracy and climate leaders in Connecticut and nationally. Each of us has the power to act and our actions can make a big difference. Through working together with hundreds of other Third Act Connecticut members and Third Act members around the country, the power and the impact of our actions is so much greater.”
On the call, CT Third Actors were introduced to the key tactics to be employed from now until November – including voter registration, post carding, phone banking, canvassing, and media strategies and communications – and were asked to commit to taking action.

Bob Bingaman described Third Act Central’s election agenda for 2026. “We want to influence the narrative and discourse around the midterms, lift up our values around democracy and climate change, and work to elect candidates that will commit to protecting and strengthening our democratic institutions,” Bob said. “We also want to lift up the role of elders in the political process.”
Key goals will include ensuring robust engagement, having a measurable impact on the electoral environment – and targeting and winning key races.
Davida Foy Crabtree, TA CT co-founder, challenged Third Actors to think about the election in the most profound possible terms. She said: “Let’s be thinking forward, not backward. Let’s not talk about going back to what was. Let’s talk about creating a new nation. Let’s talk not only about governance democracy, but economic and social democracy as well, in which every person is valued. That’s what we’re working for here.
“This is not just about an election. This is about invigorating our democracy. It’s about imagining a future that is different from the past and vastly different from the present. We have a chance to be the foundation on which that new nation is not just a dream but is built on the results of this election.”
