Third Act Actions Lab is a national network of elders who pioneer innovative strategies and tactics to accelerate the renewable energy transition and defend U.S. democracy.

What we do

  • We identify, develop, and test new forms of action to leave fossil fuels behind, taking full advantage of the important new reality that renewables are vastly cheaper than fossil fuels.
  • We recruit, mobilize, and train experienced Americans to plan and carry out innovative actions to protect U.S. democracy at a time of unprecedented peril.
  • We welcome others and cultivate communities of elders with the skills and know-how to organize innovative, high-impact actions at the local, state, and national levels.

  • We study the history of nonviolent organizing and research other strategies to create innovative, peaceful, effective actions in the streets, in the public square, and on the land to inform public opinion and influence decision makers.

  • We offer training and workshops to prepare Third Actors to design and carry out innovative,  strategic, peaceful, and creative campaigns to advance our purpose and goals.

  • We support, collaborate, and coordinate with state-level, multi-state, and/or national campaigns led by other Third Act working groups and Third Act central.
  • We support frontline communities, youth-led groups, and other organizations planning actions that align with Third Act’s mission and this statement.

  • We share information and develop original resources that advance Third Act’s purpose and support accessible, elder-friendly participation in protest and movement-building.

  • We proudly represent Third Act in movement spaces and at public actions—serving as welcoming, informed ambassadors to recruit more older adults into our work and grow the community of engaged elders.
