We need to act! It’s time to stop Big Banks from making risky fossil fuel investments. Write your Members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor the Fossil Free Finance Act.

The world has seen its hottest temperatures this summer, from oceans to mountain tops, from cities and tourist attractions to the Arctic. And we’ve seen devastating floods and wildfires. We know that these impacts will only get worse if we keep investing in the fossil fuel companies responsible for the climate crisis.

That’s why we need the Fossil Free Finance Act (S. 1138) that will require big banks to stop financing greenhouse gas emissions. Please contact your Members of Congress and urge them to support and co-sponsor this bill.

The big banks are not voluntarily changing their ways. Last year alone, the banks poured $673 billion into fossil fuel companies!

The Fossil Free Finance Act would require Big Banks to cut their financing of greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and stop all financing of emissions by 2050. Big Banks must be required to take climate risks seriously because our financial system, economy, and communities depend on it.

We need significant reductions in fossil fuel emissions to prevent further climate catastrophe. When Big Banks keep funding fossil fuel companies, their risky bets threaten our economy and our very lives.

Tell Congress it’s time to stop Big Banks from making risky fossil fuel investments, and ask your representatives to cosponsor the Fossil Free Finance Act.

Letters and emails are most effective when they are personalized. Please tell your elected officials how you and your loved ones were affected by climate extremes this summer and why you want the big banks to be required to stop financing climate chaos.
