Join us for a conversation with Melissa Sims, a distinguished attorney and fierce advocate for environmental justice
About this event
This edition in our Hope & Joy Series features Melissa (Missy) Sims, a distinguished Senior Counsel with Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman – one of the largest class-action law firms in the world. Starting with a novel 2006 case representing the Village of DePue in Illinois, Missy has built a reputation as a fierce advocate for environmental justice, championing the rights of communities affected by pollution and negligence. Fast forward to 2022, Missy and her team filed a first of its kind climate change lawsuit targeting the fossil fuel industry for racketeering. The case focuses on the devastating impact of the 2017 Atlantic hurricanes Maria and Irma that brought unprecedented destruction across Puerto Rico.
Missy’s strategy and work, along with that of a growing number of attorneys at the state, national and international levels, is itself a story more people need to hear. Equally intriguing and important is the story of how Missy’s faith lies at the core of what she does.
